I’m excited to get Christmas in July started today and share my thrift store tray makeover with you!
Thrift Store Tray Gets a Christmas Makeover
You all know I love finding thrift store items and transforming them into pretty and useful items for my home. I found this tray recently at Goodwill, priced at $1.00. I was on the hunt for an item that I could give a Christmas makeover to and this tray looked like a great piece for that.
I had the paint on hand already and I purchased two gold dotted scrapbook sheets and snowflake stickers from Michaels. I tried to remove the photo insert of the cherubs, but it was adhered well, so I painted over it.
After one coat of paint, the cherubs could still be seen.
After adding the second coat of Crimson Chalk Paint by Waverly, the picture was all covered. I gave it a coat of Minwax Polycrylic Protective Finish.
I love adding touches of gold to my holiday decor. I measured and cut the gold dotted scrapbook paper to size. I gave the tray a light coat of mod podge to adhere the sheets to it. Unfortunately, I had to have a seam, but once the tray is filled, it won’t be noticeable.
I found these striped votive holders at Home Goods that are a perfect match for the tray. I added a couple of battery powered candles to them.
This is going to be a pretty serving tray for wine during the holidays.
It took less than 30 minutes from start to finish and the cost was very budget friendly.
Don’t overlook those ugly thrift store items! With a little bit of time and for very little money, they can be transformed into useful, pretty decor pieces!
Do you try to get a head start on Christmas crafting? I often plan on doing so and this year, I’m happy to be a part of this Christmas in July Party. It’s motivated me to actually get an early start!
We’ll be sharing at lots of these great parties!
