While I’m not a watch wearer, Gloria absolutely loves them. She has quite a few and she loves coordinating them with her outfits. She has a large watch display box, but it’s rapidly filling up. When I spotted a smaller one at Goodwill recently, I knew I could give it a makeover and have it blend in perfectly with her jewelry displays. What started off as a plain brown watch box now has a completely different look. Have a look at the thrift store watch box makeover from drab to fab!
A few years ago, Gloria discovered her love of large Michael Kor and Kate Spade watches. She also enjoys having her watches and some of her favorite jewelry pieces on display in her bedroom. While the brown thrift store box wouldn’t work for her, some spray paint and Washi tape could easily change the look. The box was a very basic one, but it was in great shape. For $2.99 it was a great find!
The cushions looked as though they had been used very gently.
Using painter’s tape, I completely covered the glass top before painting.
I used TSP to clean the box before spray painting it with Krylon CoverMaxx Paint and Primer, Bright White Satin.
It took two coats before getting the coverage I wanted.
Painting the inside trim was a little tricky. I removed the partitions and covered the sides with painter’s tape. I cut strips of card stock to line the bottom before painting. I didn’t want the paint to be sprayed on the openings and lining, but I couldn’t tape over them because I didn’t want to cover the area around the openings. So, I started looking around for something that could be stuffed into the slots. Toothpicks! Sometimes you have to improvise!
Once the paint was dry, I gave it a coat of Krylon Crystal Clear Finish. I used gold glittery Washi tape as a trim for the box to give it a little glam look to match Gloria’s decor.
While this was a simple paint project, I love the new look and more importantly, so does Gloria.
We took it over to her place for pictures.
It fits in beautifully with her other gold jewelry display items.
As her collection of watches continues to grow, this should come in handy for her.

Love the watch box. I’ve never see one before. What a fantastic find for someone who has several watches. I love the white with the gold strip, it adds a nice bit of glam! Looks great with the rest of Gloria’s jewelry too. Great makeover Beverly!

Thank you, Laurie! It was a great find. I gave Gloria a pretty one for her birthday last year that is larger. I think it was about $30. To find this one for $2.99 was great. I already had the paint and tape, so it was definitely budget friendly! She’s happy with it how it goes with her other pieces, so that’s a win!

I’ve seen a couple of watch boxes in thrift stores over the years but never thought of upcycling one. This one you did for Gloria is beautiful. I love her jewelry display and the watch box just adds, even more, glamor to the display.

Wow! I had no idea a “watch box” existed. I learned something here. But although I was not aware a watch box existed, I do know a beautifully executed craft project when I see one and the finished product is gorgeous. I also love your jewelry station. Very pretty. Thank you for sharing this post at the #BloggingGrandmothersLinkParty. I shared on social media.
