Some trips to the thrift store are futile, but some days I find a few items that i know I can give new life to. For $2.99, this dough bowl I found at my local Goodwill needed to come home with me! I love having trays and bowls with seasonal decor in them throughout our house. I have a bin full of fall decor bits and pieces that I used for this thrift store dough bowl for Thanksgiving decor.
A couple of years ago I found a light wood toned dough bowl at Goodwill. I use this on a coffee table with some shells and spheres. I was happy to find this dark tone one recently. It was banged up a bit and had some scratches, but it didn’t take much effort to have it looking better.
I first cleaned it with TSP. Once that was all wiped away I used Howard Restor-A- Finish in dark walnut. This is a great product to use to give old wood a fresh, shiny look. I used it on my Sideboard Refresh project last year and I’ve loved how well the sideboard has kept its shine.
Once the bowl was cleaned and refreshed, I began layering items that I have in a fall decor bin. I pulled out a lot of items and kept playing around with the display until I was happy with it.
I like the combination of white, orange, and maroon. I’m using lots of traditional fall colors this season.
I decided to use the simple & budget friendly fall tray that I shared recently on the dining table instead of the sideboard. I put the tray together using a thrift store mirror. This dough bowl is now on the sideboard.
Dough Bowl for Fall Decor
I don’t think this piece is particularly old, but even new ones cost a lot more than $2.99, so it’s another budget friendly fall decor piece! I was happy to put some of the fall items I already had to use this season.

I’m enjoying using some traditional colors this year. I was happy to find this bowl and while it might not be an old dough bowl, it looked too useful to pass up! Thanks!
