I have several of these unfinished wood craft rectangles. They were just right for what I had in mind for this project.
I found a flag I wanted to use on Vintage Holiday Crafts. They have tons of free clip art there for lots of occasions. I printed it on a laminated burlap sheet. I could not manage to resize it for the frame that I had. So, I used strands of twine and made a bottom border for it. I ran small dots of hot glue and pressed the twine in place.
I used a piece of cardboard, cut to size, for the back of the frame. After sanding it down a little and letting some of the wood show through, I liked the twine even more. It ties the rustic look together.
I attached a loop of twine onto the back with hot glue and pressed a small piece of burlap over it to make it more secure. I made a bow from wide burlap ribbon and glued it to the twine loop very close to the top.
I attached each of the wood rectangles using twine and hot glue, measuring to make sure they were evenly spaced. The stars are foam stick ons. I rubbed sand paper very lightly over each of those.
I can use this for various patriotic holidays throughout the year, starting with Presidents’ Day.
