Try this Sour Cream Bacon Cheese and Chives Spread for your next party. It’s a tasty appetizer served with your favorite crackers. It only takes minutes to prepare and it’s sure to be a hit.
It’s time for this month’s Pinterest Challenge Blog Hop, hosted by My Pinterventures. Each month, we’re challenged to make one of our pins that we’ve saved. It’s always a fun challenge to put our own spin on recipes, crafts, or diy projects that we’ve been meaning to make for a while. We encourage you to do the same! This month, my pinspiration was from The Recipe Critic.
I loved almost everything about the recipe, except for the mayonnaise. I like a little mayo in dishes, but this called for one and a half cups. That’s more mayonnaise than I wanted. I decided to substitute the mayo with sour cream. I think it makes it more like a spread instead of a dip as the pin calls it. I combined all of the ingredients except for the sour cream in a large mixing bowl to combine.
Once I had the cheese, almond slivers, chives, and bacon bits combined, I added in the sour cream.
Stir until the sour cream is incorporated into the rest of the ingredients. Place in a bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Chill for at least 2 hours. It can be made ahead and kept refrigerated, it will last for several days.
When ready to serve, sprinkle more cheddar cheese on top to garnish.
This is definitely a recipe that I’ll continue making. I’m sure the inspiration recipe is tasty, too, but everyone at my house prefers sour cream over mayo.

This looks super tasty. I like to cut down on mayo out of my dip and spread recipes to0. Sometimes I use sour cream, sometimes cottage cheese, and sometimes greek plain yogurt. Especially when I use the yogurt, I tell myself I’m eating “healthy” 🙂
Beverly says
Thank you, Susan. I do that, too!
Debbee says
Looks delicious! I love the ingredient combo and how the sour cream made it chunky.
Beverly says
Thanks, Debbee. The sour cream was just right for us.

This looks delicious! I am not a huge fan of mayonnaise either and prob. would have tried subbing sour cream or plain yogurt for some of it as well. I bet it was a huge hit. Pinned.

This dip looks so yummy. I agree that the mayo would have been a bit much. The sour cream is a good substitution.

Thanks, Debra! The sour cream gave it a more robust flavor I think.

I’m the kind of girl that does like a big ol’ dollop of mayo with my chips (and by chips you know I mean fries – I’m English!) but for something liek this I bet the sour sream gives a much lighter feel which looks and sounds delicious.
Beverly says
Yes, I knew what you meant. 🙂 Thanks, Julie. We preferred the sour cream for its taste and texture over mayo.
