I think just about everyone has their own recipe for chili. I’ve been making slow cooker chili for years and it’s my favorite way to make it. My recipe is a simple chili recipe that is sure to warm you up on these cold winter evenings! I love using my slow cooker for lots of recipes, especially for dishes that are meant to serve a group of people.
Bush’s Beans are my favorite to use for slow cooker chili. I stick with their Chili Beans/Pinto beans for my chili, but they make several different kinds that are all suitable for chili. Diced tomatoes, seasoned chili sauce, and crushed tomatoes all add to the flavor.
I start with a pound of lean ground beef and diced onions. Once the meat has been browned, add in a packet of chili seasoning mix and one can of diced tomatoes.
Coat the inside of the slow cooker with cooking spray before adding the tomato based ingredients, beans, and the browned ground beef mixture. Add chili powder, crushed red pepper, salt, and ground black pepper to taste. We like our chili mild to medium, but it can be revved up depending on how much of the spices you add.
The slow cooker chili cooks on low for 5 hours.
We like to serve it with shredded cheddar cheese and crackers or cornbread.
