Do you dress up your mailbox in patriotic colors for the summer? I enjoy adding a little red, white, and blue during June leading up to the Fourth of July holiday. I added some colorful burlap ribbon and a small heart shaped cushion for my patriotic mail box decor. This Simple Patriotic Mail Box Decor adds a little patriotic flair curbside.
I found several cute little patriotic themed cushions last year at Walmart. I used the heart shaped stars and stripes cushion for the mail box decor.
I used a combination of red, blue, natural and star burlap ribbon. The ribbon was purchased at Walmart. I didn’t take photos of the step by step of putting this together. It’s really simple!
Starting with the large ribbon with stars, I draped it over the post. I used a piece of twine to tie the ribbon around the knob on the mail box post. I layered a strip of red and then blue on top and tied those onto the post as well. It took a couple of tries to get it secure enough, but after double wrapping the twine, the ribbon was in place.
The natural burlap ribbon is folded it into puffs and and tied in the center with twine. I added more twine to secure it to the post. The finishing touch was to add the star cushion. E 6000 Glue was used to adhere it to the ribbon.
It only took a few minutes to put this together. I love the patriotic look it gives our mail box.

It’s adorable and I love the look, but I have to be honest. Living in Florida, we’re now in the rainy season and have rain almost daily. The adorable burlap would not hold up in a heavy rain. I’ve thought of using plastic table cloths and cutting into ribbons to decorate my mailbox but it is too thin. Have any suggestions?
Beverly says
Thanks, Carol. It can get a bit soggy here, too. Could you make the plastic tablecloth doubled over to add to the thickness? What about mesh ribbon? I’ve had good luck using that outdoors. Not that it would help right now, but if you plan ahead for next year, around Christmas time, stores usually have lots of red outdoor ribbon.

We have never been able to decorate our mailbox out here in the country because of those ball bat slinging hoodlums (did I sound aggravated?) But, we are about to move into a neighborhood and I can’t wait to decorate my mailbox!!
Beverly says

Thanks, T’onna! I love the heart cushion, too. Unfortunately, the colors faded in the sun. I’m glad it was inexpensive!
