I love incorporating coastal decor in my holiday decorations. This easy DIY Sea Glass Christmas Tree will be a pretty addition this year. It only took a few minutes to put this together and I used items I already had, keeping the cost at zero!
Sea Glass Christmas Tree
I have an abundance of old picture frames, some I’ve had for years, others I’ve picked up at Goodwill for about $1.00 each. This one had been painted gold at some point, but I wanted it to have a brighter, coastal color. I’ve been using this bag of sea glass for several projects. I pulled out the pieces that were the right size for the tree.
I didn’t have any drift wood on hand that would have worked well for the tree, so I went to my craft stash to find something suitable. Back in the spring, I bought two plastic post edgers, thinking I was going to use them for my spring door decor, but I used metal ones for that project. So, these have been taking up space in my craft supplies. One of them came in handy for this project. I pulled it apart by snapping the posts away from the base. I like the faux wood grain on them for the tree.
I glued a sheet of laminated burlap onto the backing of the frame.
Apple Barrel Cloudless was the perfect color for the frame.
I painted the plastic posts, giving them a coat of bronze spray paint. I tried several different arrangements of the sea glass and decided to add a clear glass bead between each piece.
For the tree topper, I painted a shell using Apple Barrel Cloudless.
The pieces are all hot glued to the burlap.
To remove the strings that inevitably remain when using a hot glue gun, I use tweezers to pull them off.
If you want to add a little coastal decor to your holiday decorations this year, this DIY Sea Glass Christmas Tree is an easy, quick and cute project!

Oh I just love this Beverly! Sea glass has always had a special spot in my heart and this is just perfect. Just so pretty <3
PS – don't you just hate those glue strings!!! I get rid of them with a hair dryer… the heat just melts them away 😉

Thank you, Lisa! I love sea glass, too and when I actually find some at the beach, I’m excited. Sadly, not a lot of it washes ashore here, so I have to resort to buying it. I do hate those glue strings. Thanks for the tip about using a hair dryer. That’s probably lots faster than using the tweezers like I’ve been doing. I’ll give that a try!
