I have an abundance of thrift store find signs in my craft stash. For this month’s Craft Room De-Stash Challenge Hop, I’m sharing how I turned one into a fun Santa’s Belt Sign.
Santa’s Belt Sign
I’ve had this sign in my stash for a while. As I was looking for the right size board, this one looked like a good one.
After cleaning the sign with TSP, I used a damp cloth to peel away the paper covering it had with the design on it. I sanded it down to remove any leftover bits.
The next step was to paint the board red with paint I had on hand. Once the paint was dry, I used black electrical tape that I found in the garage for the stripes. You could also paint the stripes on, but sometimes quick and easy works best.
Using Cricut Design Space, I wrote Ho Ho Ho using Beefcake font and used the shapes selection for the square that would be the belt buckle.
I had to go back and resize the middle HO and cut it again to make it fit inside of the buckle.
To make the square have an open center, I used the sidebar tools to hide the all but the the outer cut.
As I always do, I use transfer paper instead of transfer tape. I have better results with the paper.
I added the vinyl HO words to the left and right of the buckle.
The resized HO was the last item added to the sign.
I think it turned out to be a fun Santa’s Belt decor piece that I’ll be using for the holidays.
I’m thinking of using it as part of our hot cocoa bar this year, but I haven’t set that up yet.
