Rustic Patriotic Wreath Using Burlap
p
Supplies Used for Rustic Patriotic Wreath
- 18 inch wire wreath frame
- Twine
- Glue
- Burlap mesh ribbon
- Burlap ribbon with stars
- Floral Picks
I found these floral picks at Michaels. The metal star and twigs are perfect for this look. It has a long stem which I threaded through the mesh and twisted it to secure it.
The bow is what really makes this wreath pop. It’s such a simple to make bow. My instructions can be found here. Different types of ribbon will give you lots of different looks. You’ll need a minimum of three strips of ribbon and a stapler.
Once the bow was completed, I used E6000 glue to attach it to the mesh. This ribbon was very heavy and the weight caused it to droop a bit. That problem was solved by using a piece of twine, wrapped around the bow and then around the wreath and tied off in back. It was easy to tuck the twine out of sight. Another piece of twine was used to make a loop for hanging.
I got the rustic look I was going for and I did it for under twenty dollars.

This wreath is just lovely! And I’m so jealous of your bow-making skills….I’ll definitely be putting your instructions to good use in the future!
Beverly says
Thank you, Christine. I’ve tried so many different ways to make bows. Sometimes, trial and error to find just what works for you is the way to go. I’m glad to know my instructions will be helpful!

Spectacular wreath Beverly! How did I miss this post?!! You make the most adorable wreaths! I love the little star and twig embelishments – they really add pizazz! And you can never go wrong with burlap!! Just Love It! Are you still thinking of the Etsy shop for wreaths?
Beverly says
Thank you, Laurie! I was happy to have found those twigs and stars for this. I’m still thinking about it. I’ve done a little research, but it’s still something that’s in the “thinking about it” stage!
Laurie says
Understandable. Seems like it might be a big time commitment at least initially.

Hi, ladies ~ I’m visiting from the Party in Your PJs link party. I love this wreath! I do a lot of red, white, and blue decorating in the summer and have been wanting a new wreath. I’m inspired by yours! Thanks for sharing!

Hey ladies – this is so creative…we love this wreath! We need to get busy in the craft room 🙂
Beverly says
Thank you! It’s a pretty simple one to put together. What’s great about using burlap ribbon is it’s forgiving if you need to twist it around to get the right look. Thanks for visiting. Hope you’re having a great week.

You make such wonderful wreaths. I used to make them and give them away but it can get costly like any craft. I’ll have to make a Canadian theme wreath for July 1st and show my patriotic side.
Beverly says
Thanks so much,Darlene. They can get costly, but I make sure to shop with coupons and I buy lots of the supplies right after a holiday when they are all on clearance. I’d love to your Canadian wreath when you make it.
Gail @Purple Hues and Me says
I love this look, Beverly! The color combination and texture of this burlap makes it stand out from the usual patriotic wreaths. And by adding a darling bow that has another lovely pattern and color – “everything looks better with a bow” – makes it “pop” even more! You’ve certainly created a beautiful rustic patriotic wreath!
Beverly says
Thank you, Gail. I’m delighted that you like it. I worried a little that there were too many combinations of colors in it, but it suited me. I agree, everything is better with a bow!
Sherry says
This wreath is gorgeous. I’ve never had luck working with burlap, but I do love it!
Beverly says
Thank you. Burlap can be a pain to worth with, but the best part of making a wreath with it is that it’s pretty forgiving if you make a mistake. It’s easy to bunch it up again and try it a different way.

I love the rough texture of the burlap. You have done well with it and it looks very handsome.
Beverly says
Thanks, Kathleen. I love using burlap for lots of projects, especially wreaths. They hold up well.

Very pretty! I love the blue and stars ribbon to pieces. Patriotic wreaths are hard to pull off and you did a fabulous job!
Pinned and tweeted too! 😀

Thank you, Robin. I played around a lot with different combinations of ribbon before I was happy with it. Thanks for the shares!

I love burlap.. feels very “early American history” to me. The ribbon is the perfect touch… have to look for that! (visiting from “CelebrateTheUSA”)
