It’s time to bring out the Red, White, and Blue! My patriotic centerpiece is easy to put together using items I found at a thrift store.

Creating one of a kind centerpieces for seasonal decor is something I always enjoy. I especially enjoy it when I can keep the cost low by repurposing thrift store finds.
Red White and Blue Centerpiece DIY
I found this wooden crate at my local Goodwill a couple of years ago. It’s from a Melissa and Doug Playset. It was in great condition and when I spotted it, I knew it would work well for a centerpiece.
After cleaning the crate with a lint free cloth, I gave it two coats of blue acrylic paint, allowing for drying time between coats.
Once the paint was dry, I used a small piece of medium grit sandpaper to give it a weathered look.
To decorate the crate I started by wrapping a piece of twine around the center slat. It’s hot glued along the way to keep it in place.
After searching through my craft stash, I found a small patriotic sign that was just the right size and color for my 4th of July Centerpiece. It had a piece of wire attached for hanging, so I removed that and attached it to the front of the crate with hot glue.
When looking through my patriotic decor bins, I also found some white craft stars. These are just the right size to fit on the corners of the crate. They are attached with hot glue.
Another thrift store find that I’ve been looking for a way to use is this star. It’s meant to hold a votive candle. It’s placed in the bed of the crate. I didn’t attach it because it can be used in the future for other decor.
I love using white faux roses for centerpieces. If I don’t have fresh flowers on hand, these are my go to flowers. Michaels often has bouquets of them on sale.
This off white pitcher is a good size to use as a vase on our breakfast nook table. I used it a couple of years ago for Patriotic Americana Tablescape.
Fortunately, the pitcher fits perfectly on top of the center of the star. Anytime I can put together a seasonal centerpiece by using what I have on hand, it’s a win. Since I didn’t do any thrift store shopping last year, I’ve been happy to have found ways to use items that I previously purchased like this crate.
When you visit thrift stores, always take a second look at things that catch your eye. Think of creative ways to use them in your decor with just a little makeover. It’s a great way to save money and get a look you want for less.
