I bought an old recipe card stand at Goodwill a few months ago. It needed a makeover, but it’s just the kind of project I like! I changed it from drab and outdated to a piece that fits in with my coastal kitchen decor. I only paid a couple of dollars for it and I had all of the supplies on hand to give it a much needed new look. It’s another example of how to take a thrift store find and give it new life by doing a simple Recipe Card Stand Makeover.
After giving a makeover to a Recipe Box to match my kitchen, I wanted a pretty and convenient way to use the cards when I’m cooking.
Don’t you love the fruit motif? I’m guessing this is something from the 70’s or 80’s because I remember seeing this design on lots of kitchen items back then. I gave it a coat of Waverly Silver Linings chalk paint, but after it dried, I wasn’t too happy with how dull it looked.
After adding a coat of Art Minds Chalk paint in white, it looked brighter.
To cover the fruit and the holes, I measured and cut a sheet of laminated burlap to size. I used white craft glue to hold it in place.
Adding some color to the stand was easy by gluing a row of sea glass colored stones along the top of the burlap.
I painted a mini metal clip using Waverly Agave Chalk paint and glued it to the burlap to hold the recipe card.
I liked how it looked, but I decided that when it’s sitting on my counter top without a recipe card, it needed a little something else.
Using the same paint as I used for the clip, I painted a small shell and glued it to the burlap.
I’m enjoying how it looks on my counter and I’m looking forward to having a handy way to use my recipe cards.
Don’t overlook those outdated thrift store finds! A little paint and some creativity can have it fitting right in with your decor! This was an easy project and I’m happy with the Recipe Card Stand Makeover.
We party with some awesome bloggers. We’ll be sharing at lots of these great parties.

What a great idea! I love the beach theme you used, too. Although we live in the mountains, I have a lot of beach decor because my boys love, love, love the ocean. I’m now off to search for something to use as a recipe card holder. 🙂
