My first Halloween project this year is an easy Raven Halloween Wreath. I kept this budget friendly by reusing an old wreath and buying supplies for it from the dollar store.
For the last few years, I haven’t done much decorating for Halloween. We used to fill our front yard with spooky fun and Gloria and I loved to dress for Halloween while giving out treats to the neighborhood children. But, over the years, the number of little ones in our neighborhood lessened so much that it hardly seemed worth it to continue decorating. I’ve missed it though and last weekend some new neighbors with children went all out for Halloween. Seeing that has given me the inspiration and motivation I needed.
I started by pulling out this old wreath that I haven’t been using for anything lately. It was brown and not quite the look I wanted.
I spray painted it black, but wasn’t completely happy with it because I knew it wouldn’t look too great against my black front door.
I gave it a coat of silver spray paint, letting some of the black show through. I also needed something in the middle of the wreath so that the black raven would be seen. I found a foam circle in my craft stash that I painted silver.
I looped some purple ribbon around the top of the wreath for hanging and tied it off into a bow. I wound some purple and black garland that I bought at The Dollar Tree around the ribbon. I liked the pop of color this gave to the wreath, but I wanted a little more color. I found these berry stems at The Dollar Tree, too.
The raven needed a nest, so I used some Spanish moss and hot glued bunches of it to the wreath. I found the black bird at The Dollar Tree, too. While it might not be a raven, it’s close enough! I attached his legs using clear fishing line.
Since I already had the wreath, ribbon, paint and moss, I only spent a few dollars at The Dollar Tree on the decorative items. That’s always good for seasonal decor crafts.
I like how it looks against the black door. The silver pops much better than if I had left it black.
