I always look for oval frames or others with interesting shapes that thrift stores have every time. The inexpensive prices make them hard to pass up. I’ve got a large stash of them and it was time that I found a way to put some of them to us. I love the oval ones and the large octagon was perfect for the base of the tiered tray.
Welcome to the May Pinterest Challenge Blog Hop, hosted by My Pinterventures. The purpose of this Pinterest Challenge is to motivate all the participants of this hop (and you too) to not just pin, but to make it happen! This month, I’m sharing tiered serving trays made from picture frames.
I loved the idea of using picture frames to make a tiered tray. I spotted a pin from What Treasures Await and it served as the basic idea for my tiered tray.
Patriotic Tiered Tray Made with Thrift Store Frames
Supplies Used for making a patriotic tiered tray:
- Thrift Store Frames
- Thrift Store Candle Holders
- Chalk Paint
- MinWax Polycrylic Protective Finish Spray
- Fabric
- Stapler
- E6000 Glue
I cleaned all of the frames with TSP before painting them. I found the pinwheel patriotic fabric at Walmart. The two candle holders are previous thrift store purchases that I had painted gold.
I painted each frame and the two candle holders with Waverly Chalk Paint in Plaster. Once dried, I sprayed them all with a coat of Minwax Protective Finish.
The pinwheel fabric is a fun look for patriotic decor. Did you see the canvas covered patriotic art I created using this same fabric?
I measured the fabric to fit each of the frames. After cutting it, I stapled the fabric to the cardboard backing of each frame. I inserted the glass and then the fabric covered cardboard. For the large frame, I added an additional piece of cardboard to hold everything in place.
I used E6000 glue to adhere the candle holders to the bottoms of the two oval frames. Once that was set, I used more of the glue to adhere the candle holders to the tops of the large frame and the middle oval frame.
I’m happy with how this turned out and it will be a fun way to serve some treats for our 4th of July Party.
