I think we can agree that we all can’t wait to say goodbye to 2020. Our hearts go out to everyone who has suffered through this year in so many ways. We know we are blessed as a family to be healthy and we don’t take that for granted.
Having a celebration for New Eve’s Year this year is a reflection of our gratitude. We will ring in the new year along with Gloria and Georges, foregoing any large parties or going out.
There are lots of ways to have a tiny New Year’s Eve celebration at home this year. You just have to be a little more creative than making a reservation at your usual destination site.
Fun Ways to Ring in the New Year at Home

Make a Festive New Year’s Eve Cocktail
Gloria is our cocktail maker and she loves making some of the classics and also creating delicious drinks with her own spin on them. One of my favorites that she makes is a Caramel Cinnamon Appletini.
Get Dressed Up and Have a Festive Dinner
This year, I’m planning on making a glazed ham with a couple of side dishes and we’ll have a nice dinner for the four of us served on a festive tablescape.

Plan a Zoom Meeting with Friends & Family to Toast the New Year
Since it will only be the four of us together, we want to share some time with our friends and family and that we won’t be seeing. A zoom meeting is perfect for this. We’ve enjoyed zooming during Thanksgiving and over Christmas.
Zoom has already announced that from 10 a.m. ET on Wednesday, Dec. 30, to 6 a.m. ET on Saturday, Jan. 2, zoom meetings will be unlimited. You can find the details at Zoom.

Create a New Year’s Eve Playlist
Use your favorite music app to create a New Year’s Eve Playlist of favorite songs. I’m working on a Spotify list this week. You could also use YouTube, Amazon Prime Music, or ITunes.

Make Delicious Appetizers Together
We always enjoy making tasty appetizers and making them together this year will be fun. These Easy Party Appetizers are a few of our favorites.

Use Photo Props for New Year’s Eve Pictures
I’ve found several festive prop packages on Amazon with Prime Delivery for New Year’s Eve Photos.
52 Piece New Year’s Eve Photo Props
New Year’s Eve Gold and Black Photo Props
Glitter New Year’s Eve Photo Props
Or you could make it a family activity to make your own. Use cardstock, stickers, glitter, and decorative tape to make signs and fun items to hold for photo props. If you have PicMonkey, you can find lots of graphics that you can use to make props.

Play Party Games
A quick search on Pinterest will provide you with tons of ideas for creating Fun Party Games for New Year’s Eve. Or if you love board games, you can find some fun games to play on Amazon with Prime delivery.

Make Confetti Poppers for Midnight
Easy confetti poppers can be made using balloons, paper cups, and confetti. Cut the bottom from cup, snip off the large end of the balloon and tie the small end into a knot. Pull the open end over the bottom of the cup. Fill the cup with confetti, pull back on the knot and watch the confetti fly! You can also use empty toilet tissue rolls or paper towel rolls cut in half.

Create a New Year’s Thankful Jar
Decorate a jar, vase, or box to create a Thankful Jar for the coming year. Begin by writing one thing for which you are thankful for going into the new year year. Each month, add a note that you’ve written about something that made you feel thankful that month. Plan on reading through all of the notes at the end of the year. You can download the card if you’d like to print them.

Create Your Own Countdown to Midnight
A countdown to midnight can be as simple as making cards each with a number starting with 10 and counting down. Either print them out or use markers to create them. If you have little ones, having them create them with markers would be a fun activity for them. One person changes the cards as you all countdown until the New Year. You can download my Countdown to Midnight Cards if you’d like to print them. If you made confetti poppers, pop them as final card comes up.

We don’t typically do anything for new Year’s eve but watch a movie and maybe eat take out. I do cook up a big dinner New year’s day and I do plan to do that again this year but I’m still not sure what movie or food we’ll be eating for new year’s eve. I’ve always wanted to host a fun night at home with activities or festivitities leading up to midnight but my boys have never once wanted to stay up until midnight!
