Making market totes for the summer is something that’s been on my to do list for a while. These are simple to make using a Cricut Cutting Machine and Easy Press.
You can never have too many totes and it’s great to have some that are designed with summer market shopping in mind.

Do you love shopping at your local markets during the summer when the fruits and veggies are abundant? Gloria and Georges go to a local one on Saturdays out on the island they live on.
I haven’t used my Easy Press 2 nearly as much as I had planned on. I loved the way these Christmas Tea Towels turned out, but I’ve only used it a couple of times since I made those. I was happy to use it again for these totes.
Summer Market Totes
Recently, while I was browsing at Michaels I spotted plain, white, cotton totes that were on sale. I bought several of them with plans to dress them up using my Cricut.
After unpackaging the tote, the first thing that I needed to do was to iron it. I set my Easy Press 2 to 350° to remove all of the wrinkles. I didn’t pre-wash this because unlike a tee shirt, I wasn’t worried about shrinkage.
The first one I made is super simple, but it turned out just how I wanted it to. I used Cricut Design Space to create the phrase. I searched images for farm fresh and found a design that I liked. You can find it by searching for #MB50026A. The word “and” is P.S. font and the word “local” is Magnolia Sky font. I sized the image and the words to fit my tote.
To cut a design using Heat Transfer Vinyl, (HTV) make sure that you turn on the Mirror tool.
Be sure to place the HTV shiny side down onto the cutting mat. After the image had been cut, I trimmed away the excess vinyl before weeding.
I cut the three lines of text into individual lines because it makes it easier to weed and pull away the backing of the HTV.
Steps for applying the design to a tote:
- Turn on the Easy Press.
- Use the Cricut Heat Guide to determine the correct setting for the material you are using. I selected cotton canvas and used 340 for 30 seconds.
- Measure to find the center of the tote.
- Place the design onto the tote.
- Follow the Heat Guide settings for the appropriate time and set the Easy Press Timer.
- Press the design onto the tote.
- Use a warm peel to remove the backing.
I love how this one turned out. It’s simple, but looks great and will be perfect for taking to summer markets.
For the second tote, I used a phrase that is all too true. How many times have you been shopping only to realize you left your tote in your car? The font I used for this one is Cricut Sans and the image can be found by searching #M3759B.
After resizing the design and turning on the mirror tool, I cut the words firsts and then the veggies. I followed the same steps as listed above to add the design to the tote.
The veggies have two layers, so the first layer was pressed onto the tote.
Next, the top layer was positioned and then pressed on.
This is not only practical to use, but it’s fun, too! I know that Gloria and Georges will have lots of uses for these summer market totes.
Do you have an Easy Press 2 or one of the other heat press products? I’ve been thinking of getting the Mini to go along with the one I have.
