I was excited to put together Gloria’s birthday party decor last year! She has fallen in love with gold decor items, so I used that as a starting point. She also loves Kate Spade. I decided to combine gold, black, white, and a pop of pink for her party decor. Also, it wouldn’t be a party without lots of sparkles and glitter. I combined some DIY projects with some purchased items to get the look.
I meant to post this last year. I created a draft post and there it stayed. September 21st is Gloria’s birthday, so today is the perfect day to share this.
Starting with the dining table, I covered it with a shimmery table cloth that I use for the holidays. I sprinkled a package of party confetti on top. The gold chargers are ones I use frequently. For easy clean up I used heavy duty disposable plates. I found these at Party City. I used gold napkin rings that I already had along with gold napkins. My gold flatware matched nicely.
For Gloria’s place setting, I added a few more touches. The little pedestal plate was too cute not to use. It’s topped with a gold stiletto. I used adhesive crystal strips to dress up her wine glass with gold on the stem and pink near the top of the glass.
For the gift table, I used another tablecloth that’s the same as the one on the dining table. I added a tall candle holder with a LED pillar candle. To give the plain candle a little sparkle, I brushed gold glitter paint over it and added a tiny black bow to the edge of the holder.
I used small party candy cups to hold a few silk flower blooms in pink. The blooms are from the Dollar Tree.
To personalize the tabletop, I painted a wooden G using gold paint. I used a circle punch for the black dots and glued them onto the letter. Once it was dry, I gave it a coat of the gold glitter paint. Polka dots are used in lots of Kate Spade products, so they had to be featured. I found black ribbon with gold dots that I used for bows on some of the gifts. Adhesive gold dots were added to others.
Also for the gift table, I added some pretty card stock to a couple of gold picture frames. A small bloom is tucked into the frame.
The buffet was covered with a white table cloth. More of the adhesive gold dots were placed randomly. More tiny black bows adorn two gold candle holders. To add more black and gold, I used washi tape to create a border around the top of the buffet.
Ferreo Rocher candy and pink sixlets fill the polka dot candy cups. Placed on a gold charger with a vase of faux flowers, it makes a pretty center piece on the buffet.
Strips of gold washi tape dress up plain glasses that are used to hold pretty gold and black straws. Rock candy is always a part of Gloria’s parties. They make great cocktail stirrers! I added gold dots to black napkins to serve as a place mat for the glasses
The centerpiece of the table is an arrangement of fresh flowers in white and pink. I used a gold mercury glass vase to hold them.
Every year for Gloria’s party, I cover a large picture that hangs in our dining room. Gloria started this a few years ago when she was decorating for my party. For this Kate Spade Inspired Party Decor, I covered it with white wrapping paper, taped some party streamers on the top and bottom, added some gold dots, and used a gold paint pen to write the Kate Spade quote onto the paper.
Since today is Gloria’s birthday, I’ve been busy getting this year’s party set up. Gloria has recently started graduate school at the same college that she earned her undergraduate degree from. The colors of the college are maroon and gold. We thought it would be fun to use those colors for her party this year. Here’s a quick look at a little of this year’s decor.
Putting together birthday party decor is something I enjoy! I have fun with it each year for Gloria’s birthday. I like to find ways to use items I have on hand, some DIY projects, along with a few purchased decor pieces.

Both parties are very classy and the gold/black/white is a timeless combo that works every time. The stilleto on the stand is the perfect touch for the guest of honor. What’s also unique is the cover over the picture. I hope gloria had a fantastic birthday. Thank you for sharing with us this week at Celebrate Your Story and we hope you will join us again next week.

Thank you, Sandra. I agree that gold, black, and white is timeless. Adding a pop of color to it gave it a little bit of fun. Covering that picture frame has become a birthday tradition. We have fun with it. Thanks for the party! Hope you have a wonderful weekend.
