Making this coastal wreath was easy and the best part for me was that I didn’t need to buy anything new for it. All of the items were in my craft stash or in my box of items that I know I want to repurpose. Every year I like to make a new coastal wreath for our front door. This one is a combination of a couple of old wreaths that have been repurposed into a new one
How to Make an Easy Coastal Wreath
Supplies Used:
Grapevine Wreath
Twine
Sea Glass Shards
MFD Initial
Starfish
Capiz Shell
Paint
E6000 Glue
This MFD initial is one that Gloria had on her front door for a while. We had embellished it with a metallic flower. After a year or so, it started looking a little warn. When she decided to change her front door wreath, she asked if I wanted this. Naturally, I said yes. I gave it a fresh coat of white spray paint, thinking I would leave it white. After I began putting the wreath together, I decided it needed to be a different color.
I painted over the white with Folk Art Coral enamel paint and added a capiz shell and starfish. I played around with the positioning of them, finally deciding to add them to the top and off center.
The capiz shell is glued to the outer border of the R and the starfish is glued on top of it. A small piece of twine is tied into a bow and glued onto the starfish. I used E6000 glue since this is going to be outdoors. Hot Glue doesn’t hold very well in changing temperatures or rain.
I wanted to give the wreath more dimension and I did that by adding a grapevine wreath behind the R. This is an old one that I had in my craft stash. I spray painted it using Krylon ColorMaster in bright white. I didn’t want it to have full coverage, just enough to give it a worn look with a color close to drift wood.
To attach the R to the grapevine wreath, I used twine. It’s wrapped around several times and then tied off into a knot on the back. I repeated this step for the opposite side of the wreath.
I added in some sea glass shards that I had left over from my DIY Beach Decor Candle Holder. These are glued in place using E6000 Glue. To give the wood more of an aged look, I used a paper towel to dab on some brown craft paint in small spots around the R wreath. I wiped it off quickly so that the coral paint would look a little aged, but not brown.
I love that all of the elements of this coastal wreath were items I had on hand. Creating a new decor piece for zero new dollars is always a good thing!

Always enjoy seeing projects made with items that have been repurposed. Your coastal wreath turned out really great. Even better didn’t have to run out to any store.
We live out in rural area so jumping in vehicle to go shop just for couple things isn’t something I do. Means I have to plan more or make do which is what I do more often than not. Might not be what I had in mind originally but works out better most times.
Love the grapevine wreath behind the R wreath, gives it the touch it needed. The coral color is perfect.
Have wonderful sunday

What’s the purpose of the wreath when it’s completely covered up? You could put the shards of glass on the monogram, add a hanger, get the same results and it would look just fine. This combination makes no sense.
Beverly says
It’s not completely covered and the purpose of it is as I mentioned in the post, to give the wreath more depth. It’s not your taste obviously, but it suits mine.
