I love finding ways to add accents to change the look of items so that they can be used for seasonal and holiday décor. Adding a strip of ribbon to plain coasters couldn’t be easier!
Valentine’s Day Coasters with Ribbon Accents
I found this set of white marble coasters at Home Goods recently. It was on the clearance aisle, so I checked to make sure there were no chipped edges or visible damage. Since they were stacked, it was hard to make sure that they were all in good shape, but for $2.50, it was worth the risk.
Fortunately, the coasters were in great shape and didn’t have any damage. I wanted to give them a little dressing up for Valentine’s Day, and I didn’t want it to be permanent.
Adding ribbon accents is an easy way to dress coasters up for any holiday or season. I bought this pretty heart cut out ribbon at Walmart. I like that it has heart cut outs so that the coaster shows through, but a solid ribbon with a heart pattern would look great, too.
After deciding where I would add the ribbon to each coaster, I measured the spot and made a tiny mark with a pencil to use as a guide for each coaster.
I measured each coaster over the edge enough to wrap the ribbon to the back and then used a piece of tape to hold it place.
Next, I made sure the ribbon was flush against the coaster and pulled it over the edge to the back and added a small dot of hot glue to secure it.
After adding the hot glue to the top and bottom of the back of each coaster, I removed the tape that I had used to hold the ribbon in place.
Now I have simple, pretty, and easy to make Valentine’s Day coasters. I’m sharing this with you all to remind you how easy and budget friendly it can be to DIY seasonal and holiday items.
I’m planning on using red and gold for our Valentine’s Day table setting this year and these coasters will be a pretty accent piece for the table with these gold trimmed wine glasses.
The ribbon will be easy to remove since it is attached in only two places on the back of each coaster with hot glue. After Valentine’s Day is over, I’ll remove the heart ribbon and if all of the hot glue doesn’t pop off, a little bit of nail polish remover will get it off.
Then, the coasters will be ready to use for the next holiday with different ribbon. A shamrock pattern will look great for St. Patrick’s Day.
My goal is to use this inexpensive set of coasters for each holiday this year.
