This Football Wall Art on Wood Made Using Cricut was a fun project to put together. I’ve been in the process of giving our upstairs sports room a makeover for quite a while. I’ve put the finishing touches on it and this wall art is a fun piece to add to the room.
I’ve always loved typography signs, but often when I see them in stores there will be some random word on them that just doesn’t work for me. Do you ever run into that? I’m excited that now that I have a Cricut, I can make my own and include only those words that I want.

Materials Used for Sign
- Rectangular Wood Box -bottom
- Paint
- Vinyl
- Transfer Tape
- Measuring tape
- Weeding Tool, Scissors, and Scraper
Some time last year I bought a shallow rectangular wood box at Goodwill. It was unpainted and in great shape. I hadn’t found a use for it until now. As I was looking through my craft stash when I saw this, it sparked an idea. It was a good size for a piece of wall art and since it was rectangular, it would work well to look like a football field.
I painted the back side of the bottom of the box using Apple Barrel True Green Acrylic Paint. I gave it two coats, allowing for drying time between each coat.
After measuring the surface and dividing it into segments, I used Frog Tape to cover the areas that I didn’t want to paint.
The white lines were painted with Apple Barrel White Acrylic Paint. I let it dry before pulling away the tape.
Using Cricut Design Space, I searched for and inserted a football image and duplicated it. Before cutting the footballs, I resized them into smaller and larger ones.
The fun part of this project was deciding on what words I wanted to use and what fonts I wanted them in. I spent a while adjusting the size, font, and placement of the words until I was happy with how it looked.
I used the attach feature in Design Space so that the words would all print at once on one sheet of vinyl. It was a little tricky to weed out all of the excess vinyl, but with some patience and through careful use of the weeding tool, I managed to remove it all without messing up.
I also cut the word “football” out of a second piece of vinyl. I used the curved text feature for it. After using the scraper tool to transfer the typography onto transfer paper, I carefully placed it in the position I wanted it in on the sign. It attached easily with the scraper onto the sign.
The last step was to add the footballs to the sign. I’m really pleased with how this turned out, especially since it’s the first Cricut project I’ve done using the attach feature.
I had just the right spot in the sports room, near the door, to hang it.

This is so much fun for fall especially. Weeding all that lettering is definitely an exercise in patience, but its worth it. I love how it turned out.
