Every year, I try to come up with a theme of sorts for Gloria’s birthday. Regardless of the fact that she’s now 26 years old, as her mother, I love seeing her smile when she has a first look at the decor. We’ve come a long way since her Barney party when she turned five! That seems to be one that stands out more than most from her childhood. We had purple everything that year. This year, I decided on a fall decor. The colors of fall are some of her very favorites, so I thought I would incorporate them into her birthday party. The bonus for going with this color scheme is that her apartment is filled with deep orange, red and brown so some of the items will find a home with her after the party.
A trip to Party City was my starting point. Who doesn’t love that place?

My next stop was to my other favorite party supply store, The Dollar Tree. There I found:
crepe paper leaves
With all of these spread out in my sun room, I began to get a clearer vision of how I wanted the decor to look. I opened up my china cabinet and began pulling out items that would work well with the fall color scheme.
A gold trimmed pedestal cake stand was ready for the turtle ice cream cake. The cake was purchased from Marble Slab Creamery because while I can do lots of things, making a pretty ice cream cake was not one I was going to try for her party.
You know how sometimes the best laid plans don’t turn out just the way you had hoped? Yeah, me too! I had created a banner of triangles to hang across the front of the table with the phrase “Happy 26th Birthday Gloria.” But, I procrastinated in printing them and once I started to do that the day before her party, my printer said, “nope, not gonna happen.” I was out of ink. It was time to come up a non printed banner. I wasn’t a school teacher all those years for nothing!
