It’s Day 2 of the 12 Days of Christmas Blog Hop. Today, the hosts will all be sharing a craft or recipe idea that is inspired by a Christmas movie. One of our favorites is Elf. We kick off the season every year by watching it together. Quoting from the movie throughout the year is something that Gloria and I do often. For our movie inspired craft, we’re sharing Elf and Santa Candy Jars. These are easy to make and could be used as a gift idea, too.
Welcome to the third annual 12 Days of Christmas Blog Hop!
Stop by every day from December first through the twelfth for new ideas you can use to make your season brighter!
Meet Your Hosts
They have all been busy as Elves creating, decorating, cooking and crafting tons of new ideas for you to try this holiday season!
Elf & Santa Hat Candy Jars
I knew Elf would be the movie I would use for this and when I spotted a package of three plastic jars at Walmart, the idea for candy jars was born. Elf is such a fun movie and it’s one those that we can watch over and over and often find something new to laugh about.
The only problem with the jars was the color of the lids. A little red chalk paint fixed that. Once the lids were dry, I added a circle of felt to the top and ribbon around the rim. I used hot glue to keep things in place. I actually ended up covering the ribbon, so that step isn’t necessary.
To make the elf jar, I cut two pieces of felt long enough to wrap around the lid and then cut them out using a zig zag pattern.
The felt is hot glued around the lid.
I added some green pom poms around the lid. I cut a small triangle from green felt and glued that in place, then added a small white pom pom to the top of the triangle.
For the Santa jar, I added white pom poms around the lid and cut a red triangle for the hat. These are also hot glued in place.
To add a little more to the jars, I used some holiday tape, wrapped around each jar. I also added a bit of ribbon to the elf hat.
The last thing to do was to add some holiday candy to the jars. Remember Buddy the Elf’s Four Main Food Groups? “Candy. Candy Canes. Candy Corns. Syrup.” We hope you’re having a sweet holiday season!
