~Charleston Room Makeover On A Budget Series~
I needed to update some frames that I’ve been using in my Charleston Room to make them match the new decor. I’ve been using the frames for a while and I love that I can easily change the photos of my grandchildren that I want to have on display. Giving them a new paint job, some distressing and adding a bit of rope has them fitting in perfectly and having easy to change photo frames is a great way to keep photos updated.
Supplies Needed~
Frame
Burlap
Chalk Paint
Sand Paper
Hot Glue
Scissors
Rope
Paint Brush
Mini Clip
To make these easy to change photo frames, I started with a simple, inexpensive frame. I used Waverly Chalk Paint in Celery and gave them a quick first coat. It takes less than 15 minutes to dry and it’s ready for a second coat.
I also painted mini clothes pins to match. To paint these and to keep them from sticking together, I placed a toothpick between the clips.
Any background cloth or paper will work well for this. I chose to use burlap. I cut it to size and placed it into the back of the frame, followed by filler paper, glass and the frame backing. Using the glass behind the burlap helps keep it place.
Using medium grit sand paper, I went over the edges of the frame and down the side to distress it.
To add a little coastal touch, I used a small piece of rope. It’s hot glued to the back of the frame.
The mini clip is also hot glued. It’s centered on the front of the frame.
I love the new look of these frames and I love how easy it is to change out the photos. I made four of them, one for each of my grandchildren and placed them on a wall in the Charleston Room.
DIY Open Picture Frames with Clips
These are so easily made and chances are most crafters have the needed supplies on hand. Keeping my budget in mind, I was happy that I spent zero new dollars on this project!

Love the open frames with the mini clothespins! This is a fantastic idea especially for pictures of the kids that are updated every year!
Your Charleston room is certainly coming together!

Thanks, Laurie! I’ve been using ones like these for a little while, but they needed a change to fit into the room now. The Charleston Room is coming along. I’ve spent yesterday and today working on a large china hutch that is the biggest challenge I’ve had yet.
