Do you often see items in home goods stores that you love and would like to have in your home, but the price just doesn’t work for you? I do that often. The solution to those pricey decor pieces is to create your own.
Create Your Own DIY Lemon Decor
I’ve had this metal pail in my craft stash for a while. I use it often for seasonal decor. While it only cost a few dollars when I bought it, it’s the kind of piece that can be used over and over and have completely different looks just by changing how it’s decorated.
For my lemon decor, filling it with fresh lemons was the best and most useful way to use it. The pail is filled about half way up with vase filler gems. Two simple yellow bows are tied to each side of the handle and then it’s topped with lemons. The best part is that these lemons can be used to make a delicious lemonade for your gathering.
Use a dollar store picture frame and lemon print fabric to make an easy lemon accent piece. Give the frame a couple of coats of yellow paint, cut the fabric to size and place it behind the glass.
For very little money, you can make a simple, yet pretty decor piece. I’ve also used large frames this way and used them as trays. A few years ago I used thrift store frames and fabric to create a Tiered Patriotic Tray.
This may be the easiest DIY of all. I found this mini watering can at Walmart and filled it with dollar store flowers. I saw a similar one at Home Goods that inspired this. The price on that one was just under $10. Mine was only about $3.
I shared my Lemon Centerpiece DIY recently. It’s made using a vintage milk glass cake plate that I love using, along with a thrift store vase and dollar store flowers.
My favorite lemon themed craft is the Set of Lemon Coasters that were made using dollar store items and more of the lemon print cloth. The cloth is cut to fit and I used Mod Podge to adhere it to each coaster. The final step is to add a protective finish.
The wine rack in our breakfast nook is a spot that I always like to decorate. Since it’s close to the table, it’s a great spot to continue the theme of the tablescape.
Whenever I spot something I love at a store my first thought is how can I replicate that for less? I often snap a photo of the item to remind me of something that I want to create. Of course, I like to put my own spin on decor pieces, changing some of the details to make it a unique piece. Do you do the same?
