Dollar Tree Basket Centerpiece for Casual Fall Table

When I saw these gold metal baskets at Dollar Tree not long ago, I wasn’t sure what I would do with it, but I picked up a couple of them. I will say these are not particularly sturdy, so I don’t recommend filling them with any heavy items.

Last year I used the fall stems that I bought at Goodwill to fill a Chalk Painted Vase for Fall. Since I’m not using it for this year, I used several of the stems from it for my fall centerpiece basket.

After sorting through my fall craft stash, I gathered an assortment of pumpkins, leaves, and sprigs that I though would all work for the basket. I didn’t use all of these items because I decided against the burlap leaves because they were darker than I wanted for this centerpiece.

To paint the wire basket I used Rust-Oleum Chalked Spay Paint. I gave it one coat and then flipped it upside down for the second coat, making sure that all of the gold was covered.
After the paint dried, I added a coat of Rust-Oleum Matte Clear Enamel spray to protect the paint job.

Next, I went through several trials and errors to get the look I wanted for the basket. I added, then removed, stems, pumpkins, and leaves and started over a few times.
Curving some of the seeded stems to fill the bottom of the basket worked out to be the best way to start filling it.

From there, I added in stems and pumpkins, trying to get a balanced look.

The basket is large enough to hold most of the items I wanted to include. The last items I added were the white bead stems. They work great as filler.

Since this is such a simple centerpiece, it’s easy to rearrange until it has the desired look. The combination of white craft pumpkins and the stems gives it just the look I was going for.

Other than the time that is needed for the paint to dry, this can be put together in 10 minutes. Sometimes we overlook how simple crafts can have a big impact on décor.
