I always love finding ways to create seasonal decor inexpensively. Starting with dollar store items is a great way to do that.
Dollar Store Pumpkin Makeover with Fabric
This pumpkin plaque is cute, but it doesn’t fit in with my soft green, coral, and blue fall decor. When I began working on this project, I was planning on painting the pumpkin. To start, I used a piece of medium grit sand paper to remove the glitter from the words.
As I was looking through my fall craft bins, I found this fall fabric that I bought last year at Walmart. Rather than painting the pumpkin, I decided to cover it with the fabric.
After removing the raffia bow and metal leaf, I flipped the pumpkin over and traced the shape of it onto the fabric. I used a rotary fabric cutter to cut it close to the edge of the pumpkin.
Before securing the fabric to the pumpkin, I made sure it fit properly and trimmed off any excess.
I used multi-purpose spray adhesive to attach the fabric to the pumpkin. It gives a nice flat look instead of possibly having glue lines from hot glue.
Using white chalk paint, I painted the stem of the pumpkin with a foam brush.
A couple of sprigs of greenery are hot glued in place at the base of the stem.
The metal leaf that came with the pumpkin is glued between the greenery.
I’m happy with how it turned out and the colors fit in great with my other fall decor.
I have it on a picture stand on top of my wine rack that is near our breakfast nook table. The colors are go great together.
