Dollar Store Fall Pedestals with Pumpkins
I plan on using lots of white with blue and coral accents for my fall decor this year. These pedestals will look great on our foyer table along with a flower arrangement.
Supplies Used for Dollar Store Fall Decor
- Glass Plates
- Glass Candle Holders
- White Pumpkins
- Straw Bale
- Burlap Leaf Pack
- Leaf Candle Melt
- DecoArt White Chalk Paint
- Chalk Spray Paint
- Spray Polycrylic
- Wine Cork
- Cardboard Disc
- Gorilla Clear Grip Glue
- Gorilla Hot Glue Gun
- Measuring Tape
I had the paint, polycrylic, brushes, glue, cork, measuring tape, and cardboard on hand. All of the other items were found at a local Dollar Tree. I ended up not using the moss that’s in the photo for this project.
I used white chalk paint as a base coat for the glass plates and candle holders. This helps the spray paint adhere to the glass better.
Since chalk paint dries quickly, the pieces were ready for the spray paint in about 30 minutes. I mentioned recently when I shared a Flatware Chest Makeover that I have a new favorite spray chalk paint. I’ve used Kilz Spray Chalk Paint on several items now and it’s great.
Once the paint was dry, I sprayed the pieces with Minwax Polycrylic Protective Finish. I decided to let them dry overnight before gluing the plates to the candle holders. To make sure I had a strong hold, I used Gorilla Clear Grip Glue. After measuring and finding the center point of the plates, I used a generous amount around the edge of the candle holder and then held it in place at the center of the bottom of the plate.
I waited until the next day before turning the pedestals over to add the fall decor pieces. As I was about to start gluing pieces to the plate, I realized that these could be used for other seasonal decor if I first glued the fall pieces to cardboard, not to the plate. I found a cardboard coaster in my craft stash that was a good size for this. Any cardboard cut into a circle would work, too.
Rather than using the mini hay bale as it came, I removed the wire wrap and separated it and scattered it over the plate.
To give the pumpkins some height, I covered a wine cork with hay using hot glue and then glued it to the cardboard. One of the pumpkins is glued to the top of the cork. I added two burlap leaves to the cardboard and glued them in place.
The mini pumpkins are glued in place around the cork and on top of the cardboard. I used a total of five pumpkins for each pedestal. These candle melts in the shape of leaves were a great find at Dollar Tree. I placed one in front of the pumpkins.
I’m so ready to start putting out fall decor, but with the heat that we’ve been having in Charleston, I’m holding off until we at least dip down into the 80s! It’s nice to have these ready to go. Have you started your fall crafting?
