Dollar Stores are great for seasonal decor, but sometimes the items need a makeover to fit in with our decor. This dollar store hanging pumpkin makeover was a quick and easy way to change the look.

Wall Art Pumpkin

If you shop at Dollar Tree, I’m sure you’ve seen these wall hanging pumpkins. I like that it has two pieces to it, but I don’t like the colors and especially not the glitter!

To remove the glitter all you need is a small piece of medium grit sandpaper. Even if you decide like I did to paint the back instead of the printed side, it’s good to remove the glitter because it flakes off and no one wants an orange glitter mess.

You could paint the pumpkin over the printed side, but sometimes I’ve had trouble with the print bleeding through.

Since this piece looks the same from the back, I flipped it over and painted the back of it with gray chalk paint.

I wanted to have the outer piece stand out from the gray, so it got two coats of white chalk paint.

I used some greenery sprigs that I had in my craft stash to add a pop of color to the pumpkin.

The leaves pull off of the stems easily and are glued to the pumpkin to cover the staples that attach the two pieces of the pumpkin. The finger protector from Dollar Tree is a must have to avoid burns.

Making rolled fabric flowers is an easy way to add more interest to the piece. These are simple to make by cutting strips of fabric and then twisting and rolling it to form the rosette.

This farmhouse wall art pumpkin goes well with the Updated Thrift Store Find Pumpkin I made for Gloria’s farmhouse decor. I love that these pieces are both very budget friendly!

I was looking at these the other day wondering how I could paint over the glitter – didn’t think to sand paper it down. I ended up taking it apart so I could have the pumpkin shape from the inside. Like how you’ve done this one!
