I have another quick and easy DIY ornament for you. Wood slices are so versatile for making ornaments. There are many different ways to decorate them. Last year, I made some using a small branch that fell in our yard. I left them their natural color and used stickers on them to make very easy ornaments. . This year, I decided to purchase wood slices from JoAnn’s and use chalkboard paint on them.
Supplies Used:
Wood Slices
Chalkboard Spray Paint
Chalk pen
Ribbon
Spray Sealant (optional)
Using a coupon made this an inexpensive project. I had all other supplies on hand to make them.
I sprayed chalkboard paint on both sides and left them hanging on a rod to dry.
Once they were dry, I used a chalk pen to decorate them. You could use chalk, but I find it easier to write with the chalk pen. I added a ribbon through the hole and tied it off into a bow.
If you’re using wood slices without a pre-cut hole, you can easily screw an eye screw into the top. I did it that way for the ones I made last year.
If you want to protect the writing on the chalkboard ornaments, spray a coat of protective sealant on them. If you plan on changing the words/drawings on them, leave them unprotected and wash the chalk pen markings off with water.
I decorated both sides of the ornaments with similar patterns. While I don’t have the talent of beautiful penmanship, for these ornaments, I was ok with just free handing the words and not using a stencil.
These chalkboard paint wood slice ornaments can be made in under 30 minutes including the time it takes for the chalkboard paint to dry.
