Before I share the centerpiece that I’ll be using on my lemon themed tablescape, I have a fail tale to share. Originally, the centerpiece was going to be designed in a glass bowl. I put it together to see how it would look and decided I liked it. But, since I had last used the bowl for some Christmas decor, it had some specks of glitter in it. I removed the flowers and candle and washed it. All was well. But as I was drying it, the glass broke in my hand causing a nasty cut on my thumb. Needless to say, the centerpiece idea had to be re-imagined! And I’m now kinda of klutzy with my left thumb wrapped in gauze and taped up.
DIY Faux Yellow Floral Centerpice
After the bowl fiasco, I looked around my house for another item to use for the centerpiece. I didn’t have another bowl that had the same low profile as the broken one, so I decided to go in a different direction by using a vintage milk glass cake pedestal plate.
To keep the cost low for this centerpiece, I used an assortment of Dollar Tree flowers. Using floral wire cutters, I snipped the stems, leaving only the bloooms.
This wood vase is an old thrift store find. I painted it a few years ago and filled it with flowers for a spring table setting. This time, it got a soft yellow paint makeover.
Dollar Tree has an assortment of LED candles. I’ve had this pillar one for a few years. It fits just right inside of the yellow vase.
Since I’m creating a tablescape with a lemon theme, I wanted to make some faux lemon slices. These needle point circle canvases work great for that.
After painting each circle with yellow paint, I added some white paint near the edge to mimic the look of a lemon slice. Each piece was cut through the center to make wedges.
Putting the elements of the centerpiece together was simple. The vase in the center of the milk glass tray holds the LED candle and it’s surrounded by the faux florals. The lemon wedges are tucked into the flowers.
Since I had everything on hand to put this centerpiece together, it was definitely a budget friendly project.
I love how bright and cheerful this looks. It’s perfect for a spring or summer table setting. I’ll be adding other lemon DIY pieces to the tablescape and sharing those next week along with a couple of lemon desserts and beverages.
While I have some fresh lemons on hand, I added a few of them to the centerpiece.
