It’s close enough to spring to begin thinking of warm, sunny days, blooming flowers and vibrant colors! Even though we’re still in the midst of chilly February days, I’m ready to dress my front door in spring time colors. With St. Patrick’s Day only a few weeks away, it’s a great time to brighten up my decor.
When I decided to make a St Patrick’s Day wreath, I thought I would use the traditional shamrock decor pieces for it. I bought several wooden shamrocks to use. But, when I started putting the wreath together, something just wasn’t working. I also bought some jeweled flower stems that I wanted to use. Those combined with the shamrocks just made the wreath look too cluttered. I put the shamrocks aside and decided to let the green ribbon and the jewel stems give the wreath a St Patrick’s Day feel.
After that decision was made, I ran into a problem. Clearly, I didn’t plan ahead well enough before I started making this wreath. I wrapped the ribbon around a straw wreath and then this happened.
Yeah, I ran out of ribbon before I ran out of wreath! Now, I could have put the project on hold until I made a trip back to JoAnns to get more ribbon, but that would have been too easy! Plus, I wanted to finish the wreath this morning. I pulled the flowers from their stems and began placing them over the empty spot on the wreath. I didn’t want to make it look too crowded, but I thought I could cover the spot well.
I continued to place the flowers onto the wreath using pins to attach them to see how it would look. Once I had the empty space filled, I used hot glue to secure the flowers in place.
I added the jewel stems with hot glue. I used a piece of burlap with gold specks to make a loop for hanging. For the bow, I reused the same one I made for my Valentine’s Day Wreath. I just replaced the red button with this green one. The bow is pinned onto the wreath with pearl head pins.
While there are no shamrocks or witty Irish quotes, I’m loving how bright and cheery my St. Patrick’s Day Wreath turned out.

Gorgeous wreath Beverly. Great idea to add the flowers when you ran out of ribbon. Isn’t is just so irritating when that happens, grrrr. Hope you have a lovely St Paddy’s day and that Spring comes soon
