Every year, I make an ornament for the year to go on our family memories Christmas tree. This year, I wanted it to reflect the year that has been like no other. My simple 2020 DIY Ornament reminds us that home is truly a special place.

I’ve seen the ornaments with a nod to the toilet tissue shortage, zoom meetings, staying in pajamas all day and other funny ones, but none of those felt right to me.
Like many of you, this year, we stayed home. My husband was fortunate enough to get to do a lot of his work from home. We’ve given up dining out, shopping for things other than necessities, and making trips to visit our loved ones. We are lucky that Gloria and Georges are close by and the four of us have made our own little pod. They have been able to work from their home as well this year.
Home 2020 DIY Ornament

I bought this little home shaped wood piece at the dollar spot at Target last year. I’ve painted it a couple of different times for seasonal decor. For this ornament, it got a fresh coat of white paint.

To hang the ornament, I thought I could attach an eye hook into the wood, but that didn’t work out. It’s glued to the back of the ornament with Gorilla Glue.

I always like to finish off the back side of ornaments like this. I used a rotary cutter to cut the shape from a placemat that I bought at Dollar tree. It’s topped with a simple green wood chip wreath using Gorilla glue. The backing covers the unfinished look of the eye hook.

Using Design Space for Cricut, I found an image with the word home. After resizing it to fit, it was cut and weeded and added to the front of the ornament.

The wreath image had red berries, but I wanted to keep it simple. I used the layers panel to remove the berries.

I added the home and wreath images and completed the ornament by adding the year to the center of the wreath. The year is from a set of self adhesive stickers, not my Cricut.

Green velvet ribbon is glued around the outside edge of the ornament. I added a bit of white ribbon through the eye hook and tied it off into a bow for hanging on the tree.

I love that when I look at this ornament in the coming years, I’ll be reminded of how blessed we have been to be able to stay home this year.

Our wish for everyone this Christmas is that the coming year will be healthier, happier, and more hopeful than ever.

I can’t even tell you how much I love this Beverly! It is the perfect ornament for 2020! I’ve seen the others too and they have made me smile but this one touches my heart. The one and only positive that I can find in my life for 2020 is time spent at home with family. I will never take the importance of that for granted again. Thank you for sharing this! I wish you and your family a wonderful Christmas.
